Scaliger Castle of Sirmione, Lombardy
One of the most complete and best preserved castles in Italy.
It is a rare example of lacustrine fortification.
The castle is wet on all sides by the waters of Lake Garda.
On one side there is the dock, once a refuge for the Scaligera fleet.
The walls and the three main towers have dovetail battlements.
Behind this last one emerges the imposing keep, with below the cells destined to the prisoners.
It is possible to access the walkways and even reach the top of the latter, as well as enjoy the splendor of the dock.
A sad legend of love wants that on stormy nights the soul of Ebengardo wanders through the castle in search of its Arice.
Uno fra i più completi e meglio conservati castelli d'Italia.
E' un raro esempio di fortificazione lacustre.
Il castello è bagnato su tutti i lati dalle acque del Lago di Garda.
Su un lato vi è la darsena, un tempo rifugio della flotta scaligera.
Le mura e le tre torri maggiori hanno merlature a coda di rondine.
Dietro quest'ultime emerge l'imponente mastio, con al di sotto le celle destinate ai prigionieri.
E' possibile accedere ai camminamenti ed arrivare anche in cima a quest'ultimo, oltre che godere dello splendore della darsena.
Una triste leggenda d'amore vuole che nelle notti di tempesta l'anima di Ebengardo vaghi per il castello alla ricerca della sua Arice.
