Il Centro Xiqu ha aperto nel West Kowloon District di Hong Kong.
Mentre sarà principalmente un luogo di esibizioni per l'opera tradizionale cantonese, conosciuta come Xiqu, sarà anche prenotabile per eventi e conferenze di terze parti da maggio.
Aperto ufficialmente il 20 gennaio, il design del centro è stato ispirato da lanterne cinesi tradizionali e "unisce elementi tradizionali e contemporanei per riflettere la natura in evoluzione di xiqu".
Passando attraverso l'ingresso principale, modellato per assomigliare alle tende del palco, i visitatori vengono condotti direttamente in un vivace atrio con un podio rialzato e spazio per una varietà di spettacoli e mostre.
L'edificio di otto piani ospita il Grand Theatre, la Tea House Theatre, la Seminar Hall, otto studi e una varietà di negozi, cibo, bevande e strutture per il tempo libero.
Il dott. Peter Lam, presidente del Consiglio per il turismo di Hong Kong, ha dichiarato: "L'apertura del Centro Xiqu segnerà un grande passo in avanti per stabilire Hong Kong come centro culturale e artistico internazionale, ampliando l'interesse della città per un pubblico più ampio".
Insieme ad un Art Park, inaugurato nel 2018, e al Centro Xiqu, ci saranno altri tre luoghi: M +, un museo in programma di aprire nel 2020; The Lyric Theatre, un teatro da 1.450 posti pronto per l'inaugurazione nel 2021; e il Museo del Palazzo di Hong Kong, che includerà un teatro da 400 posti e l'apertura è prevista per il 2022.

The Xiqu Centre has opened in the West Kowloon District of Hong Kong.
While it will primarily be a performance venue for traditional Cantonese opera, known as Xiqu, it will also be bookable for third-party events and conferences from May.
Officially opened on 20 January, the centre’s design has been inspired by traditional Chinese lanterns, and "blends traditional and contemporary elements to reflect the evolving nature of xiqu."
Stepping through the main entrance, shaped to resemble parted stage curtains, visitors are led directly into a lively atrium with a raised podium and space for a variety of performances and exhibitions.
The eight-storey building houses the Grand Theatre, Tea House Theatre, Seminar Hall, eight studios, and a variety of retail, food and beverage and leisure facilities.
Dr Peter Lam, chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board said: "The opening of the Xiqu Centre will mark a big leap forward in establishing Hong Kong as an international arts and cultural hub, expanding the city’s appeal to a wider audience."
Along with an Art Park, which opened in 2018, and the Xiqu Centre, there will be three other venues: M+, a museum scheduled to open in 2020; The Lyric Theatre, a 1,450 seat theatre set to open in 2021; and Hong Kong Palace Museum, which will include a 400-seat theatre and is scheduled to open in 2022.
